It’s really important to find a dentist who you can communicate well with. Unfortunately, you’re not really going to know that until you’ve met that dentist possibly more than one time. You want to get a feeling of consistency. Everybody’s got their best face on when they first meet someone. You go out on a date with a girl, of course, you’re going to put your best foot forward.
You’ve got to feel that there’s a consistency there and sometimes that’s going to take, again, more than just one visit. If you can communicate well with the dentist and take a liking to that person, you’re going to feel more comfortable to disclose everything with that dentist, and really communicate well so that you get to the bottom of what your chief complaints are, or what your biggest concerns are.
And the dentist is going to feel comfortable with you to do the same. To express to you what his or her chief issues are with your teeth. Then, moving forward, you just know that with an open communication like that, you’re less likely to hit any roadblocks down the road, whether it’d be the treatment that’s being rendered or how the treatment was rendered, or the finances, the payments that you might have to put forth.
I would think communication is really the biggest thing. And then, take really close notes of how you feel when you’re in the chair. Is there a finesse, and an ease of the dentist, or does it seem really abrasive? The actual motions, the way the dentist moves in your mouth. That’s really important to take note of. And you know instantly. You really know instantly when it comes to that sort of thing. Is this somebody who’s a little heavy handed, or somebody who has a delicate touch.
