Some patients do experience sensitivity following teeth whitening but it’s totally temporary. The bleaching gel opens the pores in your teeth. The tooth, believe it or not, has pores just like in your skin. The gel will open the pores and draw the the external stain out of those pores and it lightens the teeth. If you’re opening the pores of the teeth, sure you’re pulling stain out of the teeth, but you’re also making the tooth more permeable, and more sensitive to cold or hot things as well.

How long does the take home teeth whitening take?
You would do it for two weeks straight or until you get to your desired shade. There is a point where you might say to yourself, “Okay, my teeth are white enough and I don’t need to bleach them any further.” That might happen after four days, it might happen after a week, it might happen after two weeks, or you might not ever get to that desired shade for a number of reasons. Not everyone’s teeth bleach the same.
How would you recommend someone care for their teeth after they’ve had them whitened?
Normally after the Zoom treatment or the Diversident treatment, I might recommend a toothpaste that helps to desensitize the teeth. It has phosphates in it, and it’s going to desensitize the teeth so that they’re not so sensitive or you can minimize the amount of sensitivity after the procedures done.
What are some of the things I should avoid if I have Veneers on my front teeth?
I have patients who have a habit of biting on pens while at work or chew on toothpicks, or eat really, really heavy foods, like breads that are super crispy and they go to bite down on their front teeth and it’s probably a bad idea to go that route.
Are there any risks involved with getting Veneers or Lumineers?
There are no risks involved. The patient has to understand and be aware that part of the enamel will be removed and it doesn’t grow back. But no patient is going to know any different.

Frequently Asked Questions about Dental Implants
Restorative dentistry is a field that has seen massive improvements in recent years, with the advance of technology. Contemporary dental implants make it possible for the dental patient to have missing teeth replaced with artificial ones – but don’t let the word ‘artificial’ rouse mental pictures of fakeness or inefficiency. Today’s teeth implants look, feel, and function exactly the same way as natural teeth. Dr. Jonathan Cook DMD, of llustradent in Fort Lauderdale can provide you with all the information you would ever need on dental implants. You can also schedule a dental appointment with him, either for dental implants or any other implant dentistry procedure. We believe that there are three main considerations that you should be aware of when choosing a dentist.
Does the dentist care deeply about you and your dental health?
Is the dentist skilled enough to consistently provide the highest quality of dental care?
Does the dentist have the team and the tools available to provide you with the highest quality of care?
At JJ Dental our entire team is proud to be able to answer yes to each of these critical questions.
