Healthy tooth care begins with brushing and flossing. Proper brushing and flossing are the most important things you can do to keep your teeth and gums in healthy condition. If you are not brushing twice a day and not flossing every day, if you are not brushing and flossing effectively, then it’s a losing battle. You’re not going to remove the plaque and the tartar.
Our office recommends proper brushing and flossing as a means to having great home dental care. If you have bridge work, or implants, talk to your dental hygienist who will be more than happy to recommend the proper hygiene products and instruct you on the best method for cleaning and caring for your teeth & dental work. Ultimately, brushing twice a day and flossing once a day is the key to a healthy, happy mouth.
How to Make Proper Brushing Less of a Chore
We recommend the Sonicare Diamond Clean electric toothbrush to our patients. For anybody who is skeptical, once you get an electric toothbrush, you’ll never go back to a manual toothbrush. The toothbrush vibrates so you don’t have to rotate or move the toothbrush too much, you just have to reposition it and it does the work for you.
The toothbrush has a built in timer that will get you in the habit of brushing for a minimum of two minutes. It is practically impossible to thoroughly and effectively brush your teeth in less time than two minutes. You can change the settings, but it will beep every 30 seconds signaling that it’s time to transition to a different part of the mouth.
You start on the front side of the top teeth, and after 30 seconds, the toothbrush will beep, signaling you to switch. You then move to the back side of the top teeth for 30 seconds, until the toothbrush beeps again. You continue this process until you have cycled through the front and back of both the top and bottom teeth.
